August 22, 1990 During a boring evening, I decided to determine the pin-outs for the cables supplied with Lap Link III. The following values are accurate as far as I can determine (as tested with a digital VOM/Continuity tester). These pin-outs can be used to make longer serial cables to use with LapLink, or, for those of us with limited space in our carrying cases, a "LapLink Null Modem Adapter" can be made for the 3 possible configurations (DB9 to DB9, DB25 to DB25, DB9 to DB25) and allow you carry a handy dandy, multipurpose shielded serial cable that can used to connect to serial printers, modems, and using these adapters to other computers (and allow the LapLink Remote Install feature). The full pin-outs for the serial and parallel cables are as shown below: Serial cables: DB9F to DB9F 2 ----------------- 3 3 ----------------- 2 4 ----------------- 6 5 ----------------- 5 6 ----------------- 4 7 ----------------- 8 8 ----------------- 7 DB25F to DB25F 2 ---------------- 3 3 ---------------- 2 4 ---------------- 5 5 ---------------- 4 6 ---------------- 20 7 ---------------- 7 20 ---------------- 6 DB9F to DB25F 2 ------------------- 2 3 ------------------- 3 4 ------------------- 6 5 ------------------- 7 6 ------------------- 20 7 ------------------- 5 8 ------------------- 4 and if you want to make a dual headed adapter - here are the pinouts: DB9F -- DB25F to DB9F -- DB25F 2 --- 3 -------------------- 3 --- 2 3 --- 2 -------------------- 2 --- 3 4 ---20 -------------------- 6 --- 6 5 --- 7 -------------------- 5 --- 7 6 --- 6 -------------------- 4 --- 20 7 --- 4 -------------------- 8 --- 5 8 --- 5 -------------------- 7 --- 4 Parallel Cable (Printer Port cable) DB25M to DB25M 2 ------------------- 15 3 ------------------- 13 4 ------------------- 12 5 ------------------- 10 6 ------------------- 11 10 ------------------- 5 11 ------------------- 6 12 ------------------- 4 13 ------------------- 3 15 ------------------- 2 25 ------------------- 25 John Crea
