Notes on the fugue from the Toccata in e minor by J.S. Bach Transcribed into .ROL format by Larry Soprano in New Castle, PA. This fugue is from Bach's Toccata for harpsichord in e minor. Toccatta is italian for 'to touch' and most of these pieces exploit contrasts between singing style melody and the chordal melody that is easily touched on a keyboard. This fugues theme combines these two styles. It starts out singing and then starts alternating with arpegios and a rocking interval that expands chromaticly. The fugue (flight) is fairly simple... that is to say it doesn't use any really complex counterpoint like turning it upside down or playing it backwards. It is developed mostly by expanding small parts of itself against the original version, and exploiting the touch, singing contrast. Larry Soprano
