NEW SOUND BLASTER BOARD USERS ============================= As I was there just a few weeks ago, I would like to pass the following along to all NEW users of SOUNDBLASTER boards.I am not in any sense of the word an expert with the board but have seen enough HELP ..HOW DO YOU ? .. to realize there is little help for the "Brand new user" of these boards. There is little advanced stuff here, just "show me how to" type things. ROL2CMF and a few other spellings, is a way for SOUNDBLASTER boards play songs that were written for the ADLIB card and have files that ending in ROL . You will need the following besides your soundblaster card. 1. A file that ends in ROL ( *.ROL) 2. ROL2CMP.EXE (In this library) 3. Some instruments files for the soundblaster ( *.SBI) or "Banks" of instruments for the Adlib (*.BNK ) or instruments for the Adlib ( *.INS) Keep in mind that the song has the names of the instruments it will need is in the ROL file.I choose the SBI instruments that are available in this library. 4. Now lets say for the example that your files are all in the C:\SB directory...... 5. HERE WE GO..... ROL2CMF EXAMPLE.ROL EXAMPLE.CMF /S\SB 6. Had we used a bank of instruments we would of typed ROL2CMF EXAMPLE.ROL EXAMPLE.CMF /B\SB\BFILE.BNK where BFILE.BNK is the name of your bank file. Also try typing ROL2CMF to see a brief help screen. Some other files that I have found of interest are: SV150.ZIP Demo of .VOC file viewer MMXXX.ZIP Player for ROL and CMF files like a jukebox MUSICIAN.ZIP Music writing program SB-SOUND.ZIP this is the mystery "SOUND.COM" you will hear about and is needed to fully emulate an adlib board. TRAKBLAS.ZIP Amiga files played on SB board -------- and many others --------- And Finally as the TECH support person at Creative Labs says,.. "It's HARDWARE COMPATIBLE not SOFTWARE COMPATIBLE" so don't think you can just plug in adlib stuff and have it work. You have to translate programs first.Download everything that says SOUNDBLASTER, try it,learn, reboot often and amaze yourself. Please also check in the GAMERS library under utilities ( GO GAMERS ) for other items, MIDI ( GO MIDI ) and the Ultimate BBS (803) 895-3536 and of course the Creative Labs BBS (408) 986-1488
