PRODUCT : QUATTRO PRO NUMBER : 200 VERSION : 1.0 OS : DOS DATE : April 30, 1990 PAGE : 1/2 TITLE : RUNNING QUATTRO PRO IN WINDOWS Quattro Pro was not designed as a Windows specific application. However, it will function in the Windows environment (not in a specific window). Use the following settings as a starting point when defining your PIF file for Quattro Pro: KB Required: 384 KB Desired: -1 Directly Modifies: Screen Program Switch: Text Screen Exchange: None Close Window: YES ÜÜÜÜÜÜÜÜÜÜÜÜÜÜÜÜÜÜÜÜÜÜÜÜÜÜÜÜÜÜÜÜÜÜÜÜÜÜÜÜÜÜÜÜÜÜÜÜÜÜÜÜÜÜÜÜÜÜÜÜÜÜÜÜÜ KB Required: 384 In most cases, Quattro Pro will load in 384K RAM (512K is recommended). Use this value as a minimum starting point and increase as necessary. KB Desired: -1 By using -1 as the desired amount of RAM for Quattro Pro to operate, Windows will swap itself to hard disk to allow Quattro Pro full access to available RAM. You can leave this option blank or enter a zero (0). In this case, Windows will allow Quattro Pro access to any available RAM. Directly Modifies: Screen Since Quattro Pro can generate graphics but will not run in a window, set this option to Screen. This will allow Quattro Pro to operate in a full-screen. Program Switch: Text If you wish to be able to switch back to Windows by pressing (for background operation), set the Program Switch option to Text. This will limit the amount of RAM reserved by Windows when swapping Quattro Pro out of the current screen to access Windows or another application. Set the Program Switch option to Prevent if you are not interested in swapping Quattro Pro in/out of memory. This will conserve the amount of memory available for Quattro Pro. You must exit the program (/File, Exit) to return to Windows. PRODUCT : QUATTRO PRO NUMBER : 200 VERSION : 1.0 OS : DOS DATE : April 30, 1990 PAGE : 2/2 TITLE : RUNNING QUATTRO PRO IN WINDOWS Screen Exchange: None The Screen Exchange option can be set to None, unless you are going to use the Windows Clipboard for data exchange. Close Window: YES Setting the Close Window option to YES will actually remove Quattro Pro from memory upon exiting and will close the screen which it occupied. If you decide to leave Quattro Pro in a window upon exiting (Close Window: NO), you will not have any EMS (EXPanded memory) available for use by other applications. Upon loading Quattro Pro, it will access all available EMS. There is no way to minimize this amount through Quattro Pro. Therefore, leaving the window open upon exiting the program will not free up this memory since it will still be reserved by Quattro Pro. If you do not have EMS or do not have any other applications which can/will access this memory, this setting will have no bearing other than the amount of conventional RAM necessary for maintaining the window. NOTE: Borland has announced that a Windows version of Quattro Pro is under development. Currently, no time frame for a release date is available.
